Hi, I was wondering if anyone here had thoughts on what some people call "Cafeteria Christianity" (often derisively) or others call Progressive Christianity. Basically, the idea that you just don't accept everything in the Bible. I was briefly a fundamentalist a long time ago (Southern Baptist) so, admittedly, that has colored my perspective a little.
I occasionally go to an Episcopal church now, but I often wonder, why should I choose to have faith in Jesus if I reject a lot of other things in the Bible. I feel like I'm dropping more than I'm keeping. How can I honestly recite the creeds? I believe in God and find a lot about the Christian story instructional at least in a metaphorical way, but is that enough?
Hope this makes sense, Stein
